July 2008 Prayer Update

Cheryl Gayle on July 29, 2008

Today is our 30 year anniversary. As we ?reflect? on our life together, we are so thankful for how God has brought us this far. It is only by the grace of God. Our journey began in Newport News, VA where we met. Then it continued in Va. Beach where we returned to God after thinking that we could live without Him. We lived briefly in Christiansburg, VA for 18 months, and then we moved to Berkeley Springs, WV for 20 years. During this time, we learned that serving God is a 24/7 lifestyle. Not just a Sunday routine. God has blessed us with 3 wonderful children, many friends, and a great Bible teaching church.

In 1998 we felt led into full-time missionary work which we started in 2001 with the Baers. So far we have been serving the Lord for 7 years full-time. Our main regret is that we wish that we had started to serve God full-time sooner, but we know that everything has been in His time and in His Way. Today, and the rest of the week, we get to spend a couple of hours with over 160 children, 6-11 years old, sharing about missionary work and Togo at Fellowship Bible Church. What a blessing to us to have this privilege to affect others for Him.

We had a great time at our Missionary Enrichment Conference outside Harrisburg, PA a couple of weeks ago. We had many highlights and learned a lot from our courses. We came away refreshed, challenged, and uplifted in His journey for us. During the conference, Satan tried to discourage though, and we received news that our Ghanaian driver, Wilson, had been in a very serious accident when he was transporting one of our short-term doctors, his wife, and one of their friends from Accra, Ghana to our hospital. Due to much prayer and the work of the hospital, Wilson has survived and has gone home to Ghana. Our visitors were safe, even though bruised and shaken up. At the same time, we heard that our co-worker Dr. John Briggs was back in the hospital with a serious leg infection again. All we could do was cry out to God. John was able to get out of the hospital quickly and back to work. So these potential tragedies were averted! Praise God. The work continues in Togo. Our hearts and prayers are there as we enjoy our time home.

We have had other disappointments in the last week or two since being at the Conference, which is normal after a mountain top experience, but we know that God will be victorious in all. Satan will never prevail. One bit of great news that we received during our conference, is that Dr. David Kuehler, General Surgeon, has felt led to return to Togo from Oct 2008-May 2009. Dr. Kuehler will still need help, as our hospital is too busy for just one surgeon, so please pray that other surgeons----short-term and long-term----will feel led to serve in Togo. We thank God for how He always provides for our needs.

Thank-you for being part of His team for Togo. We look forward to seeing all of you this year.

For His Glory,

Michael & Cheryl Gayle
